I use to be a bartender. In New York City. Big clubs. Little hideaway dives. Nice restaurants. Chain restaurants. Upper West Side. Greenwich Village. South Street Seaport. I was known for my martinis. I made a ridiculously mean margarita.
But when I left the world of bartending some 15 years ago, I also left behind the world of cocktails. other than the occasional cosmo or appletini, or vodka tonic or marg on the rox, mostly, my only drinks were things like red wine, as organic as I could get, or tequila, preferably as a simply shot with a lime and soda back. But a year ago I began going out to monthly "Ladies Night Out" (quotation marks because the guys were invited too - calling it "Ladies" was a kind of in-joke as to how we needed to behave - gossipy and catty and many cocktails) with some of my Cubicleland folks. And I discovered all of the new flavored vodka martinis and fell in love. Sure, I'd had my share of cosmos or appletinis, but the stuff they're doing now? Holy guacamole they're luscious!
And so in the throes of not wanting to clean my house the other night, and coming to terms with the fact that it was a sty and people were coming over for the Shaman's Circle each Sunday night and it was at that point where it's so funky it's a little embarrassing I made a deal with myself: cocktails and music and fun. And since I was in the mood for tequila, I got creative:
* very large slosh of tequila
* lime club soda
* juice of 1/2 lime, 1/2 lemon
* generous squirt of grape flavored Stevia
Sugar free, clean, straightforward, low hangover factor, and may I say, YUM?
