Diablo Cody won an Oscar last night for best screenplay for Juno. Have you seen it yet? The writing is so truly hilarious and heartfelt and edgy and straight into the heart. My sis and I sat in the movie theater and laughed and laughed, mouthing lines to one another that took our breath away they were so dang good.
Do you guys know who Diablo Cody is? She was a blogger out of Minneapolis who had the funniest freakin blog, "Puss*y Ranch" which chronicled her adventures as a stripper and pe*ep show worker, as well as her fat cat George (even more jumbo that The Hoon!) and her Irish (or was that English?) husband Jonny. She had been in her cubicle at her job as an ad copy prrofreader and thought: I hate this job so much that I'd rather be doing anything else, even . . . stripping. A lightbulb went off, she tried stripping, liked it, and never looked back. And then after a while stripping and blogging about it, she got a job writing for a local newspaper and shut her blog down.
Then, a couple of months ago, after I'd seen Juno, the name Diablo Cody kept flitting through my brain. Where did I know the name from? Why was it so familiar? I did a Google search and quickly found out the trajectory from blogger to Oscar winner.
She wrote a book about her stripper experiences, calling herself "the Margaret Mead of stripping". That got her on David Letterman. Then she began screenwriting. Which led to Juno.
And now she's won an Oscar.
Her new blog is up at my*space.
Hilarious as ever.
